I really like a new and upcoming artist Adetomiwa Gbadebo. His work is being featured at the Exit Realty Metro offices in Uptown and he just was invited to join the MIA MAEP as Board Member.
Below is a description of an upcoming event he is part of. I hope you consider supporting him along with our amazing local arts scene.
Shifting Perspectives is a cross-discipline multicultural concert series focused on recognizing, accepting, and celebrating differences between artistic disciplines, cultures, and communities.
Join us for Part 1 of this exciting 4-part series which will focus on the creative intersections between visual art and music. Watch the ‘unveiling’ of a new work by The Fire Arts Center, a free improvisation inspired by film and projected images, and the creation of a new painting inspired by the audience and music alike.
Heather Doyle, Metalsmith, Artistic Director – The Fire Arts Center
Wing Young Huie, Photographer, The Third Place Gallery
Adetomiwa Gbadebo, Yorùbá Artist, MIA MAEP Board Member
Tyler Cessor, Saxophonist, Founder – Shifting Perspectives
UPDATE: VIP tickets are sold out but you can still get general admission tickets at Eventbrite.
On November 15th 2014, from 630-10pm Sisu will host the Brave + Beautiful Runway show as part of its one (1) year celebration. Sisu is an amazing boutique in Woodbury MN that aims to create a comfortable and welcoming atmosphere. An atmosphere where women can relax and feel at home as they shop for a specific occasion or just because. So during the event laugh, be comfortable, have a good time… and when you post about it use their hashtags: #shopwithsisu #sisustyle.
Not only is it a great experience going through their website and learning about Sisu, it gets better as you read the details for the Brave + Beautiful Runway Show. As mentioned in the Facebook event; “Proceeds from event + raffle ticket sales will benefit Tubman a local non-profit that helps women, children and families struggling with relationship violence, substance abuse and mental health. (For more information on Tubman and their services, please visit www.tubman.org. )”. I am extremely excited to be a part of this event celebrating Sisu and supporting Tubman.
“Some might call it backbone, spunk, stamina, or guts. Whatever you choose to call it, sisu is a measure of integrity that surpasses the hardship and sees through to the end. It is an inherent characteristic or mindset that anyone can possess.” – Shopwithsisu.com
If you didn’t know about Sisu, now you know. When you get a chance explore shopwithsisu.com or visit the retail location below. Their hours are Monday- Saturday 10am – 7pm, Sunday 12pm- 5pm.
